I'm sure many of you have seen Julie and Julia or have read the book. I love Meryl Streep and loved her interpretation of Julia Child.
The kitchen seen from the wall of pots and pans
As you can imagine I had to go and see the famous kitchen at the National Museum of American History. I first heard of Julia Child though my sister, Anabel, and her husband who love so many of Julia's recipes.
The famous peg board with all the pots and pans
Sorry for the quality of the photos but the lighting was very low and you have to see it through an acrylic panel.
I would love to go visit those kitchens! I need to plan a trip there. It looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI looooooved that exhibit!
ReplyDeleteI think it extremely funny to have the kitchen of a special persons in an exhibition of a countrys history. I mean going after this, there should be a Louvre just filled with kitchens in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the likes on my blog. I love your architecture pics a few posts ago.
Cheers, San
Oh, I was there this summer. But I never checked out Child's kitchen, seems like a huge mistake..... I really wanted to see the first ladies exhibition. But the line was too long. I have to go soon again. Your blog is lovely! Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read or seen it but I love this kitchen, it's amazing! I want a pots and pans wall.

ReplyDeleteOh how cool! I loved the movie too, and ever since have wanted to check this place out.
ReplyDeleteWe had planned a trip to DC last summer and it didn't work out. It's been years since I have been there, and I really want to take the kids. I love how they have preserved her kitchen, and other parts of our culture ... soon, soon... Thanks for sharing this - you reminded me to make those plans again!
ReplyDeleteThat peg board wall is so cool!
ReplyDeletehej, very cute pictures!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I would've loved to see that! I didn't know much about Julia Child before watching the movie, but Meryl's portrayal of her left me intrigued! Goes to show you that you don't need a big "fancy" kitchen to make your own special brand of *magic*!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that julia child quote. great post!

Love the quote and Meryl Streep! Very cool blog :)
ReplyDeleteOh that is so fun that you got to go see it! We watched all of the special features on the Blu-ray disk, and I really enjoyed seeing how they recreated Julia's kitchen down to the very little details! They said the only things that they replicated that weren't the original were the windows and floors. They digitally designed the floor to a T! Such a fun post, BON APPETIT! :) XOXO
ReplyDeletei loved this movie! so lucky you got to go to the museum :]
ReplyDeleteLOVED the movie....how wonderful that you got to see the kitchen in person!
ReplyDeleteSoooo jealous - I want to go and see it for myself!!
ReplyDeleteOh I'd love to go and see that some day! I loved that movie, and Julia was such a character. You just know she was a blast at a party!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I am so jealous! I want a kitchen just like hers and be able to express my love for food as well as she did. She's completely my idol!

Netflix just posted Julie and Julia to watch instantly, I am just waiting for a quiet night with my glass of wine and chocolate bar and enjoy Streep's performance. I remember as a kid watching Child and loving her accent.
ReplyDeleteI loved the film, and Julia's story, I was a bit disappointed she didn't appreciate what Julie was doing but oh well... I have her cooking book and need to make her chicken soon! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post - I absolutely loved this movie, and I am NOT a cook! It was so charming. And her kitchen was absolutely made to eat in - as charming as the France she loved.
ReplyDeleteI nearly died when I went there in February- had gotten the movie for xmas and obsessed! Great exhibition!
ReplyDeleteI bow down to the greatness of those copper pots and pans...and the incredible chef who created so much with them. Someday perhaps I'll have my own set...
