As I mentioned yesterday, the different areas on NY have different examples of architectural styles. In the areas that have smaller buildings these are built in more traditional styles and those that are taller they are usually boxier with Gothic or Art Deco details.
This building actually has Venitian type decorations which are usually more colorful
I remember in design school teachers talking about the influence NY buildings and their architecture had on the creators of superheroes like Superman and Batman. If you remember they lived kn cities like Gotham and Metropolis which are also names that have been given to NY because of the style and size of its buildings.

My favorite cities in the US for viewing architecture are Philadelphia, New York and Chicago! Sounds like you have been on the move!
