I happen to love these cookies and have even made them to give away to people. I tried these "pepper nuts" {this is the translation of their name} for the first time at Epcot Center on a visit I made during the holiday season. Their origin is said to date back to the 12th century Germany and rapidly became popular in Denmark and the Netherlands.
In these countries they start showing up on the first days of December to celebrate the day of Sinterklaas and/or Saint Nikolas and baked throughout the Holiday season. The recipes vary from one country to the other but I love the ones that have pepper in them as well as other spices and some sort of nut {check out the recipes I included}.
Have a sweet day and hope you are enjoying your Holiday baking!

ReplyDeleteYummy. The holidays are certainly the perfect time to have an excuse to bake and eat cookies. My favorite cookies are the jam filled butter cookies and Italian cookies, (the ones that are all different colors, pink, green, etc.)
