That is definitely not me and has never been. I have always envied those people who can sleep anywhere {even on the floor!} because for me to get a good night sleep many things have to sort of be in place. If you are like me, there are many things you can do to close your eyes for a few good hours.
There has always been a controversy on how many hours of sleep you really need but what is really important to feel rested is how many hours of continuous sleep you get per night. Try to get at least 5 or 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep that way you feel rested when you wake up.
Your bedroom has a lot to do with your good night sleep. First of all make sure it's a space you like and enjoy spending time in, it should be preferably somewhere between 70F {21C} to 75F {24C}, your mattress should offer you the needed support for your body, and wear clothes that are not too tight and feel comfortable.
Avoid working out later at night because it energizes your mind and body instead of making you tired. Additionally, stay away from caffeine, difficult to digest foods {like red meat or spicy foods}, and scary of violent movies before going to bed that way you won't have nightmares.
There are a few things you can eat and drink that will help you fall asleep and stay asleep {very important!} like a cup of chamomile tea, a bunch of almonds, a tablespoon of honey, a couple of slices of whole grain bread, and my favorite... a cup of cherries!
Have a great day!
Oh I need a good night's sleep or I am a cranky girl the next day. At least 7 hours is a must for me!
ReplyDeleteI'm a night owl, so I have to practically force myself to go to bed every night. I'll have to try some of these "sleepy" snacks!
ReplyDeletehow i miss my bed looking at these pictures! haha

ReplyDeleteGreat tips!
ReplyDeleteI love sleeping in a slightly cooler room- right now, I've got the windows open in the bedroom to let the cool night air in. Oh- and don't forget the ceiling fan!

I have trouble staying asleep but lately I've been so busy I just collapse at night and all of a sudden it's morning - heaven. I do go through bouts of insomnia though, will remember those cherries :)
ReplyDeleteI've always slept little, between 5-6 hours. I can be envious of those who gets 8 hours, but on the other hand it does seem to work for me and I get a lot done. :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that almonds would have that effect... interesting
ReplyDeleteI've always been a bad sleeper, but I definitely keep your tips in mind. 5-6 hours is ideal, but I've always heard of 8??
ReplyDeleteIt takes me forever to fall asleep but once I'm out, it's hard to wake me! I am a big time napper too!! That bedroom pic is soooo dreamy!! xo Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteGreat tips - for me I find I need more and more sleep the older I get, but it also seems to be harder to get it.
ReplyDeleteNo joke- that above woman is exactly how I sleep, arm thing and everything. My arms wake up sooo sore, but it's the most comfortable position. Whether or not my hair and make-up looks like hers is entirely debatable, but I like to think it does (haha.)
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me want to take a nap! lol Xox <3 hautepinkpretty.com
ReplyDeleteI had no idea a cup of cherries could help you sleep! I'm always so envious of how quickly John just falls asleep–it can take me hours!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am terrible at falling asleep. Good luck for me I can take it really well, with you 4 hours of sleep and 1 cup of coffee I'll be fine. It isn't healthy at all, I know, but I survive. Not that I pull late-nighters like these all the time, but just when it happens I'm okay
ReplyDeleteBut still, this post was very nice and very helpfull!
xoxo Sootjeelina <3
I have the opposite problem, i need too much hours of sleep!
ReplyDeleteI fall asleep immediatly and normally i sleep 8 hours uninterrupted, but if i can i could easily sleep for 12 hours!
I really envy people who are fine with few hours of sleep! -_-

I'm a dreadful sleeper. That's why I blog!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, these are good tips and you have to be sensible and do things to make sure you are relaxed at night before you try to sleep x
Great tips, Elie! I always love a cup of chamomile tea before bed, though cherries sound yummy, too. xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteI definitely rely on my melatonin to fall asleep and stay asleep at night. I'm an awful sleeper. But a bowl full of cherries sounds like a pretty fun thing to try too!
ReplyDeleteI am lucky to get 5 hours straight. (My son is 6 months old and hasn't gotten the memo that he is supposed to sleep 12 hours straight for me). I am sooooooo tired.

I spend a lot of time making my bedroom comfortable but like you I have a hard time sleeping. I just got a sleep mask and it kind of works, but I always feel better when I get a little more sleep. Hope you are well Elie!

i am one of those people that can fall asleep anywhere...yet i find myself in insomnia a couple of times a month. i am sure it is stress...so, whenever i am feeling a little stressed, i take a hot epsom salt bath & drink a cup of sleepy time. does the trick every time...i always sleep like a baby! {oh, & on the plane, it is all about the eye mask!...& a bloody mary!} XO brynn
ReplyDeletethese are good tips, even for those who can sleep anywhere. i find that if i'm comfortable, sleep comes easy.
ReplyDeletei feel like i am never rested, it's horrible!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally the person who can sleep on the floor {even concrete I'd guess though I'm not silly enough to try}. When I'm awake in the middle of the night, it's such a novel thing.
ReplyDeleteThey are good tips though! :)
I'm so tired these days, I can sleep anywhere.
ReplyDeleteBut ironically, at night, when I'm in bed I hAVE to wear my blindfolds.... funny, right?
Ronnie xo
I am the same as you and envy those people that can fall asleep any time, any where. I try to relax before I go to bed and drink herbal tea. It helps, but still takes some time before I doze of :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tips..I could really do with more and better sleep really. Great tips :) x
ReplyDeleteSome years ago I was insomniac, it took me two years of yoga and lots of camomile tea to be able to sleep again. Now I enjoy sleeping so much!!!
