Take Out

Getting used to a new work lifestyle rhythm is hard, especially when it comes to your eating habits. As you can imagine, after years of having absolute flexibility on my schedule now I find myself having to accommodate to a whole new schedule.

My thing these days is taking my lunch to work with me {yup, I'm a lunchbox lady!} because the location of our office is not very "out to lunch friendly". Also, by taking my lunch with me I save a large amount of money because each meal I take with me costs me between $3.50 to $5 versus the typical $10-plus.

The healthiest choice is to take a salad with you because it is easy to transport and it's pretty much smell free {hate  people with smelly food in the office}. For your choice to remain a healthy one, opt for salad dressings with that are low fat or make your own at home using olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, and some type of spice to add an extra layer of flavor.

Try to add protein to your meal in the form of chicken, tofu, grilled calamari rings, chickpeas, or lentils. Pasta or grain salads {you can go for rice or couscous} give you the option to experiment with interesting mixes and give you the option of heating up your meal in case the weather calls for it.

My salad tomorrow will consist of radicchio and romaine lettuce, buffala milk cheese {interesting flavor}, chickpeas, and sun dried tomatoes with a raspberry vinaigrette.

Have a great and flavorful day!

  2. I know! For me it's very confusing as well, as freelance make up artist, I don't have a regular schedule- I try to always have my breakfast and coffee at home in the morning before I leave the house, no matter if it's a very early start or a later one.
Most days I prepare a little lunch salad. On photoshoots, there is usually a lot of junk food served and I really prefer fresh food.
    You salads look great.

  5. You and I are in the same chapter, just different pages. I went from an office environment into a flexible schedule and have been eating ALL the time. But I think I'm going to start preparing salads this week and will be taking a lot of your tips

  6. My eating habits are crazy when I start a new schedule. I need to learn to bring salads to the studio, but I have such issues remembering so I end up eating a granola bar and fruit snacks. Not healthy!

  7. Great post! Your salads look terrific. I'm lucky because I have a natural food market near my office and I can get something healthy.. although sometimes I end up with a cookie (an organic, gluten free one.. Lo!)

  10. Great lunch ideas! I'm a lunchboxer too- if I went out to eat everyday my wallet would be empty and I'd need to size up in pants! ;)

  18. I'm a 'lunch box' lady too. With a little bit of planning my lunches are much more creative than the standard PB&J.
